Well, there use to be number of things I use to do earlier before I could actually ride my car. For instance:
1. I would change my phone profile to make sure, I disable WI-fi and enable Bluetooth.
2. Start the driving agent so that it can read my SMS / E-Mails
3. Start my GPS and Navigation app & car dock
4. Increase the overall volume of the phone
5. Call my beloved that "i am leaving for the home and I am at ...... junction"
6. Lock the phone so that I accidentally don't press any key.
Ufffff.....lot of things...and hence, I stopped doing it. But in the quest to automate my experience, i started using the paid version of "Trigger" App which is an android based app which trigger actions on various events such as start, close or change of
In case of car, what is important is the last feature!!! Geofence......
A geo-fence is a virtual perimeter for a real-world geographic area..Example of geofence of shopping or home boundaries.
Geofencing combines awareness of the user's current location with awareness of nearby features, defined as the user's proximity to locations that may be of interest. To mark a location of interest, you specify its latitude and longitude. To adjust the proximity for the location, you add a radius. The latitude, longitude, and radius define a geofence.
More on geofence can be read at here
Coming back to how to use it for automating our drive experience....
I have geofenced my home and office location for Entry and Exit events. So the moment i exit my home location (radius), automatically the App triggers saved tasks mapped against "exit" event in Trigger app. It changes my profile to set the volume as per my desired levels, starts Bluetooth and connects with my car's media & phone system, disables Wi-fi, sends an existing composed message to my wife with location and short message!!! And yes, all this is automatic....i don't have to click a button.....
Simillary, when i enter the home fenced area trigger initiates WiFi, disables Bluetooth, GPS, etc. - yea, all on its own.....
I do recommend getting Trigger from android store and start checking out for an auto life!
